Short and Suite

Total distance today = 7.5 miles
Total ascent today = 492 feet
Cumulative distance = 156.1 miles

Today was a short easy day, in preparation for a mountain climb and longer day tomorrow.

We've looked over our schedule for the rest of the trip and compared it to our progress, physical fitness, and mostly our desire to tour some cities on our path - and concluded that we needed to add more stops/tour days.  We are therefore adding 8 more days to the Camino part of our trip and an additional week to visit other parts of Spain or maybe Portugal, to be determined when (if?) we complete the walks to Santiago and Finisterre.

After a leisurely breakfast (bread, cereal and yogurt), we strolled out onto the Camino de Santiago again. The morning was much the same as yesterday, except we had a little more distance from the roads. Often they were out of sight, but not out of earshot.

The only site of note, was the distant Ermita de la Virgende la Pena (Our Lafy of the Rock). It is built into the side of the cliffs. However, since it is usually locked, we did not make the 2 mile detour to see it.

Too bad. It looks like an interesting place.

This same town,Tosantos, also had a pilgrims fuente. But be careful...
Choose the right spout.

We stopped for lunch in Espinosa del Camino and reached out to FedEx one more time for the boots. Success! (kinda) We think...

FYI - Our daughter, Jen, is one of the reasons we can do trips like this. Poor kid, since she lives closest to us, she helps us handle issues like this, and reads our home mail, pays bills, etc.  Thankfully, our farm manager, Matt, keeps the oyster farm running and cares for our dog, Cooper.  Mucho gracias to both of you.

So we left our lunch and strolled an additional 2 miles to tonight's hotel, across a bridge,

And through a truck stop,

And into the town of Villafranca Montes de Oca where we are staying tonight.

Since this is the first of our rescheduled stops, I wasn't expecting much because of the late booking. This is our room:

Sweet suite!
After I picked my jaw up off the floor, we dumped the packs, and took a 2 hour nap :)  ahhhhhhhh

  1. Don't choose the "right" spout ... choose the "correct" spout, indeed!
